SUMMARY

This position is responsible for field installation and commissioning of BMS and lighting control systems and ongoing service commitments. Concurrently this position will strive to enable and achieve the highest possible level of customer satisfaction on assigned projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Proactively partner with external customers’ facilities staff and Contractors to create and  improve C&C work processes, to the betterment of Company performance as measured by Customer Satisfaction, completion time and job profitability.
  • Responds to technical service calls. May be dispatched to remote locations throughout the US if necessary.
  • Perform call center activities to support customer call handling and dispatching as available.
  • Promote C&C Service Team to potential customers to ensure revenue growth. Create customer loyalty and satisfaction in all aspects of work.
  • Requires rotating 24/7 on-call service duties.
  • Work closely with internal customers (Service, Engineering) to focus the Companies’ efforts to effectively complete our construction contracts.
  • Contribute to build an environment based on courtesy, knowledge and respect.
  • Abide by C & C employee policies, procedures and safety requirements - including but not limited to those covered in the employee handbook, during orientation, and/or in ongoing training sessions.

 

System Technician – Level 1, Job Description:

  • Cross-checks field terminations and performs commissioning duties as outlined on job documentation. 
  • Provides sketches of field changes and discrepancies for engineering corrections and drawings.
  • Keeps Project Coordinator informed on the nature of work accomplished and outstanding issues.
  • Conducts self study (reading, research and practice) to improve and maintain technical proficiency in company's product lines.
  • Able to install low voltage cable from prints without supervision. 
  • Able to download databases to controllers, monitor system points, and commission RTUs and lighting controllers.
  • Able to dial in to jobsites and troubleshoot from remote location.
  • Assist with job layouts, bid proposals, O&Ms and submittals.
  • Able to perform job functions with minimal supervision.
  • Able to provide required paperwork for DDC system closeout.
  • Able to communicate effectively with the onsite personnel regarding system layout and functionality.
  • Able to provide customer training on the field hardware and layout.

 

System Technician – Level 2, Job Description:

Highly proficient at performing all the work of a System Technician – Level 1 plus the following;

  • Able to program, commission and terminate most C&C DDC systems without supervision. 
  • Able to perform retrofits and upgrades to C&C DDC systems.
  • Maintains a good working knowledge of computers.
  • Able to provide customer training on the installed systems.
  • Able to understand HVAC systems and Lighting Controls with only minimal supervision.
  • Able to read and understand project estimates and ensure that all work is done to the customer’s satisfaction within budget guidelines.
  • Able to understand and develop technical solutions to highly complex field problems with HVAC and lighting controls. 
  • Able to run multiple work crews without any supervision. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

System Technician Level I

  • Minimum education level of High School diploma or GED. Two-year Associates Degree or military experience preferred.
  • Four years of experience in the controls trade as a System Technician. . 

 

System Technician Level II

Education and/or experience of a System Technician Level I plus the following:

  • Two additional years of experience in the controls trade as a System Technician. 
  • Experience managing jobs to a budget.
  • Experience managing personnel.
  • Experience as an administrator on Microsoft Sharepoint.
  • Experience with AutoCAD; able to modify exiting drawings.
  • Experience with Auto Desk Design Review.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret construction related plans.  Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with clients and other contractors, all levels of internal organization, and the general public.

 

COMPUTATIONAL / MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to utilize Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, Outlook).

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to anticipate and solve practical problems, and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to reason interpersonally with internal and external customers to achieve a friendly on time and orderly job performance. Must know when to seek assistance from other functional areas within the organization and/or higher ups.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must have a current driver's license.

 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

-      Formal or informal knowledge of electricity and HVAC and the ability to read and understand Electrical and Mechanical plans.

-      Familiarity with any major, modern, control product; particular experience with Novar, Trend, Bacnet, LON or Modbus based systems would be a distinct plus.

-      Able to track, work on, and follow through on multiple concurrent tasks in order to achieve proper closure and to meet deadlines.

-      Proactive time-management skills in order to establish and maintain cooperative, effective working relationships with customers, contractors and co-workers.

-      Must have computer software skills, specifically in Excel (creating and entering data onto spreadsheets), Word (correspondence and reporting), Outlook (all email related functions), and Access or similar program.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit or walk for prolonged periods of time. Also required to talk or hear utilizing the telephone or in person.  The employee is often required to type on a computer; to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; to reach with hands and arms. Frequently required to climb stairs, ladders or scale ditches on construction sites.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to normal office conditions and is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and outside weather conditions when at construction sites.  The noise level in the work environment is typically construction sites, which may result in exposure to moderate to loud conditions. Some site visits are considered hard hat areas and require heightened safety awareness. Frequent extended travel using cars, and planes may be required.
